Irish Dancer Not Dancing

Ireland was a magical trip that did not end (or start for that matter) the way we expected. Within in 24 hours of arriving in Killarney Peyton sprained her ankle. Another 24 hours of hoping, RICE (rest, ice, compress, elevate) and a quick trip to the doctor’s office was met with the reality that she would not be dancing at All Irelands.

So what do Irish dancers do when they can’t dance?

Well, Peyton watched every minute of the competition, including her own! I was so proud of how she handled her disappointment. And honestly, as much as I knew she loved Irish Dance before our trip to Ireland, I didn’t know how much until I sat with her through her own competition. She shared so much commentary about the sport, the dancers, the moves, and the music. And she was smiling through all of it.

Ross Castle

This was our first trip to Ireland and with site-seeing off the table we decided that the one place we had to visit was Ross Castle – probably no relation. 🙂

The wind was so strong it was blowing the rain sideways. Winter storm Dennis brought intense winds and a lot of rain. The area surrounding the castle was practically flooded. The Taxis driver that drove us out there couldn’t get down the drive way but was sweet enough to wait while we grabbed a few selfies. Unfortunately we never made it inside.

Such a magical picture, given the wind and rain (see below)

In spite of everything we really enjoyed our time in Ireland and look forward to getting back. I would highly recommend staying at the International Hotel if you find yourself in Killarney. We made full use of the onsite restaurant and breakfast options. And used Euro Taxis and Tour Killarney to get around town and keep Peyton off her foot.

Have you ever been side tracked on a trip abroad? I would love to hear about it!

Start talking,
